Moving with a Pet? - Tips for Moving with Dogs

We are always busy packing and preparing when we move. We often forget that our canine friends may also find this event very stressful. Nevertheless, there are many things you can do to make the move easy for you and your dog.
·
Check your new property for any possible problems. Make sure the fences are secured enough to keep your dog from running away into an unfamiliar neighborhood. Also, check if the area is safe from heartworm and paralysis ticks.
·
Find out where the animal emergency center is to be prepared for all possible contingencies. If something happens, you can easily address the incident rather than searching the neighborhood.
·
If you are travelling by car, do not feed your dog 4 hours before you drive. You may not be aware, but dogs can get car sick too.
·
It is important to get your dog to being in the car. Take short trips with your dog so that on moving day, he won't feel nervous.
·
Don't let your dog stick his head outside the car window.
·
If you are driving long distance, make sure you bring plenty of water, enough to last for a few days.  Some dogs can get sick when drinking new water due to the different ‘bugs' that can be in water. However, they can get used to it after awhile.
·
Keep a picture handy in case your dog escapes.
·
While you are on your way to your new home, make sure to stop regularly so your dog has a chance to drink and go to the toilet.
